TOP 5 TIPS TO DEEPEN YOUR SELF LOVE
It’s abundantly clear that you love yourself. After all, you give yourself the gift of fitness! However, if you are anything like me (or the thousands of women I have researched!) you likely forget that it’s possible to love yourself in every minute of every day.
One of the big things I find missing in this age of communication is an abundance of messages that celebrate authentic beauty – which comes in every age, shape and size (despite what the media tries to tell us!). This subtle yet profoundly impactful reality has proven to leave women feeling less than good enough – about their age, body, size, weight, beauty and more.
However, there is good new! It’s possible to shift from not feeling good enough into celebrating and loving yourself, as you are right now. How do you do that? Change your focus from what you don’t like to what you do like!
Here are my TOP 5 favorite ways to deepen self-love:
Take Yourself on a Date!
It can be hard to find time in your busy life to do the simple things that make you light up like a Christmas tree – especially because there are already so many demands for your time! However, by building a personal date hour into your week, you are giving yourself love in a way that no one else can. Essentially, you are “filling up your cup” so that you have more to give other people. (In other words, it’s giving yourself love so that you can pay it forward even more!) *making time for your FIT CHICK bootcamp classes counts as a self-loving date.
Breathe
This one sounds simple – because it is! When we “just breathe” we are anchoring ourselves into the moment, which makes judgmental or critical thoughts impossible. Why? Because we are too busy being in the moment! Try it – it’s really cool!
Write 100 Things You Like About Yourself
This exercise is one that I have all my clients do. Take a piece of paper and count out 100 lines. Then, in one sitting, write 100 things that YOU like about yourself. They could be anything from the color of your eyes to how kind you are to your family and/or strangers. They could also be based on your skills like how good you are at your job or how amazing of a painter you are. By writing out 100 things you like about yourself you are deliberately retraining your brain to focus on the good – which is deliciously self-loving!
Love What You See in the Mirror
Did you know that you weren’t born into this world with a criticizing mind – thinking that you are too fat or too saggy or too old or too … (fill in the blank). All of the negative chatter was something that we learned! And because we learned it, we can easily unlearn it! How do you do this? It’s easy. Every time you find yourself looking in the mirror and focusing on and/or judging your perceived “flaws,” choose to focus on what you like about you instead! (Something from the 100 things you like about you list, perhaps).
Activational Phrases
Activational phrases are cutting edge techniques used in the personal development industry. They are the step beyond “affirmations” because they infuse you – right down to your DNA – with the truth of this new way of thinking.
Activity: take 10 of your favorite things you like about you and write “I AM ______” for each one. Post them on sticky notes in your office, car, home, etc. so that you can see them regularly and remember how fiercely-awesome you are! (For example: I AM beautiful – inside and out. I AM kindness. I AM confident. I AM ….)
