{"id":7515,"date":"2016-04-27T17:16:13","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T17:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/?p=7515"},"modified":"2021-08-31T01:43:07","modified_gmt":"2021-08-31T01:43:07","slug":"chick-month-3-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2016\/04\/chick-month-3-2\/","title":{"rendered":"10lbs lost, 10in down &#038; finding fitness after breast cancer: Celebrating Maria fitness &#038; weight loss journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hey Chick,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Today we are celebrating a Chick of the Month, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/locations\">Maria from our Mississauga Bootcamp<\/a><\/strong>, who has touched our hearts and inspired us on SO many levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a story about finding fitness after surviving breast cancer<\/strong> &amp; owning her POWER.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a story about starting your fitness journey at any age &amp; any stage<\/strong> (Maria is a FIERCE 57!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a story about working hard and reaching goals<\/strong> (like fitting into clothes she hasn&#8217;t since her 20&#8217;s)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Starting can be the hardest part<\/strong>. It is uncomfortable and scary at times and that is OK, we grow and change for the better when we step out of our comfort zones BUT you have to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\">take action<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>If you are getting ready to start or get back on your fitness journey after being on hiatus then<strong> Maria&#8217;s story below is a must read<\/strong>. After seeing her friends&#8217; awesome results, Maria joined FIT CHICKS and has lost 10lbs &amp; 10 inches and found a love of fitness&#8230;all with just starting with 2 days per week and combining mi diet with a new CBD product I found online!<\/p>\n<p>Delta-8 is a cannabis compound that has become popular because of its similarity to delta-9 THC, the main compound in cannabis that gets you high, causing euphoria, happiness, sedation, symptom relief, and much more. Large amounts of THC are found in a majority of cannabis strains. What we know from the 2004 study is that mice ate 16% more food over a nine-day period after being given <a href=\"https:\/\/budpop.com\/collections\/delta-8-vape-cartridges\">carts with D8<\/a>. This was more than the D9 group. This suggests that with more research, delta-8 might become a therapeutic tool for those who face food intake challenges for a number of reasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\">1. What made you decide to join FIT\u00a0CHICKS ?<\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>My story &#8211; I\u2019m a breast cancer survivor<\/strong> \u2013 I was diagnosed October 2006; had surgery and chemo.\u00a0 I also choose to work during chemo as I knew if I worked I would heal faster.\u00a0 Now coming on my 10<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of when I was told I had cancer \u2013 I\u2019m here to tell my story.\u00a0 I\u2019m doing great.\u00a0 Throughout my journey I remained positive, the support of my family &amp; friends made this chapter of my life okay.\u00a0 I dealt with it and moved on to write many more chapters \u2013 happy chapters &amp; I\u2019m still not finished.\u00a0 I decided that I wanted to do the Princess Margaret Cancer walk this year \u2013 I did it in 2007 right after the end of my chemo treatment.\u00a0 To do it this September \u2013 I knew I needed to get \u201cfit\u201d \u2013 so that is why I started FIT CHICKS \u2013 to get fit for the walk &amp; also for the rest of my life.\u00a0 I plan on a long life as my bucket list is very long.\u00a0 <\/em><strong><em>I so believe that if you stay positive, think positive it all comes back to you positively! \u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">I\u2019ve also been on many diets (Nutri-System, Jennie Craig, Weight Watchers) and exercise (Curves) programs before &amp; they worked for a bit.\u00a0 <strong>My colleague Lianne has been doing FIT CHICKS and I\u2019ve seen her results<\/strong>. I knew this was the last time for me to do this\u2026.I asked Lianne if I could attend one class to see if this might be something that would interest me.\u00a0 I went to that class on Wed. Feb. 3<sup>rd<\/sup>; fell in love and signed up for 12weeks on Feb. 4<sup>th<\/sup> and I\u2019m not stopping. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\">2.\u00a0\u00a0 What is the biggest change you have seen in your life since joining FIT\u00a0CHICK<\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">S?\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">How has fitness and nutrition changed your life for the better?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Since joining (it has been 8 weeks so far) I\u2019ve noticed a big change in how I feel.\u00a0 <strong>After each class I have more <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7531\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/4-300x251.png\" alt=\"4\" width=\"300\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/4-300x251.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/4.png 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>energy and sleep better at night<\/strong>.\u00a0 Sleeping was always a huge problem for me.\u00a0 I can now sleep for 4 to 5 hours without waking up.\u00a0 Regarding nutrition \u2013 I\u2019ve always eaten well however now I\u2019m more careful what goes in.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been eating out less since I started FIT CHICKS; \u00a0I bring my lunch every day including snacks.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">\u00a0<\/span><u><\/u><u><\/u>I\u2019m also thrilled to share some news\u2026I went shopping again for some clothes \u2013 I was looking for a pair of black dress pants \u2013 found them in size 18 (I haven\u2019t been an 18 since at least my early 20\u2019s).\u00a0 I also bought myself a pair of black skinny jeans (yes they have a bit of stretch) however I picked up a size 16\u2026.OMG I thought I was going to fain<\/em>t.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\">3.\u00a0 What do you find is your biggest challenge to continue to choose to be active?\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">How do you overcome it?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><strong> Biggest challenge in being more active is \u201cTIME\u201d<\/strong>.\u00a0 With the job that I have, sometimes I have some really long days.\u00a0 At the end of a really busy crazy day, I\u2019m tired and just want to eat (sometimes) and just go to sleep.\u00a0 I\u2019m taking baby steps in this area \u2013 <strong>I work out two times a week and I\u2019m starting to add a bit of extra exercise on the days I don\u2019t do FIT CHICKS \u2013 power walking mostly.\u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0I\u2019d like to get FIT so I can start doing some running.\u00a0 That is my goal.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\">4.\u00a0 Do you have a healthy &#8220;go to&#8221; recipe that you use for a meal that you take with you?\u00a0 Please share<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><strong>I love to cook and take lunch every day.<\/strong>\u00a0 Since I started FIT CHICKS Kelly mentioned a great scrambled egg recipe with vegetables.\u00a0 I\u2019ve made my own version of this with veggies \u2013 chopped onion, pepper, zucchini, cherry tomatoes that I love.\u00a0 I also make my own \u201cground turkey burgers\u201d\u00a0 &#8211; lean ground turkey, a bit of bread crumbs or oats; some parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, pepper, some chili pepper; one egg, mix and place on a rack in the oven or BBQ \u2013 My cheat meal.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><em><u><\/u>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><strong>5.\u00a0 What are 3 things in your gym bag and\/or kitchen could you not live without?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\">My Nutri-bullet; definitely music and my new best friend \u2013 my sneakers!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\">6. What is your fave FIT\u00a0CHICKS\u00a0Signature workouts &amp; why? Is there anything that is different about your experience at FC than at other gyms or classes?<\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><strong> I love the FIT CHICKS classes as they are never boring.\u00a0 They are a \u201ctotal\u201d body workout.<\/strong>\u00a0 Like I mentioned I\u2019ve done Curves and I also went to a small gym to work out with a personal trainer.\u00a0 At the beginning I liked them, however I got bored. FIT CHICKS is not boring \u2013 the instructor is very motivational before, during and after class.\u00a0 The ladies in the class are also great.\u00a0 I\u2019m new to this \u201cfitness stuff\u201d and since day one I have not worried about how I look, how slow I am.\u00a0 Everyone in class and the instructor motivate me to keep moving.\u00a0 They are all \u201cnormal people\u201d and they don\u2019t intimidate me.\u00a0 I look forward to Mondays &amp; Wednesday\u2019s.<strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s written in my day timer like a doctor\u2019s appointment \u2013 FIT CHICKS Boot Camp!<\/strong><\/span><\/em><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\">7.\u00a0 Being fierce is about healthy inside &amp; out.\u00a0 How do you stay motivated and thinking positive about fitness and health?\u00a0 What do you do to nuture your soul and celebrate your fierceness?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> I\u2019m a positive thinker.\u00a0 I read a lot of books \u2013 Abraham, TUT \u2013 The Universe, The Secret, etc.\u00a0 I receive daily positive notes in my inbox and they are the first emails I open before anything else.
