free meal with my Top 5 &#8220;How to have a Chick Approved BBQ&#8221;<\/strong> (plus links included below to recipes to help you out!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>1.\u00a0 SKIP THE SAUCE<\/h3>\n<p><strong>BBQ sauce is a hidden sugar bomb.<\/strong> In 2 TBSP of Kraft BBQ sauce there is a whopping 9 grams of sugar (that is equal to 3 tsp of sugar!).\u00a0 Not to mention the sodium and additives.\u00a0 What&#8217;s the solution?\u00a0<strong> Make your own BBQ sauce using fresh tomatoes, onions, vinegar and spices <\/strong>(which is way easier than it sounds) or <strong>opt for other home made marinades like oils, fresh herbs and spices or homemade salsas<\/strong> like our <a title=\"Chick Feed \u2013 Laura's Sassy Salsa\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2010\/08\/chick-feed-lauras-sassy-salsa\/\">Sassy Salsa<\/a> or <a title=\"WELLNESS WEDNESDAY \u2013 Marvelous Mango Salsa Recipe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2012\/03\/wellness-wednesday-marvelous-mango-salsa-recipe\/\">Marvelous\u00a0Mango Salsa<\/a> &#8211; yum!<\/p>\n<h3>2.\u00a0 BYE BYE BREAD<\/h3>\n<p><strong>My approach to BBQ is balance<\/strong>.\u00a0 While bread is not the devil as most peeps like to think, it does pack a higher caloric and carb punch which I prefer to have in another form (like dessert!).\u00a0 With BBQ, the grilled meat and veggies really are the star with so much flavor so <strong>skip the bread and wrap your burgers in lettuce wraps, Portobello mushrooms or lightly steamed cabbage leaves.<\/strong> If you are gonna have the bun, just make sure to skip the dessert.<\/p>\n<h3>3.\u00a0 GIRLIE GRILL YOUR FRUITS!<\/h3>\n<p>Honestly one of my favorite ways to eat dessert is from the BBQ.<strong> Grilled fruit is incredible and you can do SO many sweet and savoury apr\u00e8s dinner treats<\/strong> including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"CHICK FEED:  The Perfect \u201cGirlie Grilled\u201d Pineapple\u2026&amp; less than 5 ingredients!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2014\/05\/chick-feed-the-perfect-girlie-grilled-pineapple-less-than-5-ingredients\/\">Grilled Pineapple <\/a>topped with 2 ingredient &#8220;ice cream&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Grilled peaches topped with goat cheese and cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>Grilled strawberry &amp; healthy banana bread or protein waffle skewers with melted dark chocolate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_6003\" style=\"width: 509px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/grilled-fruit-skewers-021.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6003\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6003\" title=\"grilled-fruit-skewers-021\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/grilled-fruit-skewers-021.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/grilled-fruit-skewers-021-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/grilled-fruit-skewers-021.jpg 499w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6003\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pic source kimhealthyeats.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Pretty much any fruit can be grilled and will make you look very fancy when served. \u00a0Just make sure to soak your skewers for 30 min if wood so they don&#8217;t burn!<\/p>\n<h3>4.\u00a0 LOW CAL COCKTAILS<\/h3>\n<p>Like I said, BBQ to me is all about balance and it may involve\u00a0having a tipple or 2 \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0If you are going to indulge, <strong>skip the beer or margaritas and go for a wine wine spritzer, <a title=\"WELLNESS WEDNESDAY- Sassy Sangria Recipe..chick style!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2012\/05\/wellness-wednesday-sassy-sangria-recipe-chick-style\/\">low sugar sangria<\/a> or flavored vodka and soda<\/strong> with fresh fruit &amp; herbs. \u00a0<strong>Liquid calories are sneaky ones and ADD up fast <\/strong>(not to mention the sugar) so if going to have a cocktail just go low.<\/p>\n<h3>5. \u00a0WEIGH YOUR PROTEIN!<\/h3>\n<p>A lot of times when it comes to BBQ, we are slapping on huge portions, not cooking properly (ie overcooking) and eating double what we should. <strong> By weighing out your homemade burgers (approx 4 oz is a good size) or <a title=\"CHICK FEED:  3 Ingredient Super Stuffed Chicken Recipe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2015\/05\/chick-feed-3-ingredient-super-stuffed-chicken-recipe\/\">chicken breasts<\/a><\/strong>, not only can you exercise portion control but your meat will cook properly and evenly thus leaving you more satisfied. \u00a0It also avoids the charring that has been linked to carcinogens.<\/p>\n<p>So chick &#8211;
