{"id":5720,"date":"2014-10-24T11:52:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-24T19:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/?p=5720"},"modified":"2014-10-24T11:52:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-24T19:52:00","slug":"chick-tip-dont-be-a-skimpy-stretcher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2014\/10\/chick-tip-dont-be-a-skimpy-stretcher\/","title":{"rendered":"CHICK TIP: Don\u2019t be a Skimpy Stretcher!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hey Chicks,<\/p>\n<p>Are you what we call at FIT CHICKS, a skimpy stretcher?\u00a0 Do you work out but breeze through your pre and post workout stretches?\u00a0 This chick tip is all about sweetness of stretching.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stretching is the most overlooked but one of the most important parts of your workout.<\/strong> It helps build your flexibility and range of motion for your muscles (which is soooo important as we get older),\u00a0 reduces those achy break muscles and helps prevent injury.<\/p>\n<p>Now did you know that there are 2 different types of stretching that you should do during your workout?<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong><strong>Dynamic Stretching<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This basically means stretches with movement.\u00a0 Dynamic stretching is done BEFORE your workout.\u00a0 This is awesome because you are getting your muscles warmed up and you get a stretch to help prevent injury.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of dynamic stretches would be arm circles, partial squats and one of my personal faves \u201cThe rock and roll!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">2. <\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Static Stretching<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This means stretched that are held still.\u00a0 Static stretching is done after your workout.\u00a0\u00a0 This is time for you to get like gumbi and build your flexibility as your muscles are lovely and limber.\u00a0 It will also save you from a lot of soreness the next day.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of static stretching would be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2012\/11\/fitness-friday-how-to-rock-the-seated-forward-bend-yoga-style\/\">seated forward bend<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2012\/01\/fitness-friday-amazing-yoga-stretches-for-every-chick\/\">IT band stretch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5721\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Forward-Bend-1-300x225.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5721\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5721\" title=\"Forward-Bend-1-300x225\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Forward-Bend-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5721\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Introducing the fab Seated forward bend!<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_5722\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IT-Band-Stretching-with-Lynx-lol-300x225.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5722\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5722\" title=\"IT-Band-Stretching-with-Lynx-lol-300x225\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IT-Band-Stretching-with-Lynx-lol-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5722\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IT Band Stetch with Amanda&#39;s kitty Lynx<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Can\u2019t reach your toes or are very tight?<\/strong> A little extra tip to help really work into your stretches and help you get deeper into your stretches is to grab a skipping rope or the band of your bathrobe.\u00a0 Wrap this around the body part you are stretching that you can\u2019t reach to give you the depth to eventually get there.<\/p>\n<p>So Chicks, next time you get your sweat on.\u00a0 Take a little bit more time to get those sweet stretched in before and after and don\u2019t be a skimpy stretcher!<\/p>\n<p>Have a fab day,<\/p>\n<p>Laura,\u00a0 your Head Chick<\/p>\n<p>PS \u2013 Want more awesome info about stretching?\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/retreats\">Join our FIT CHICKS Retreat on Nov 21 \u2013 23<\/a> at Horseshoe Resort for workshops, workouts and to get like gumbi with our yoga portion with Head Chick Amanda!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey Chicks, Are you what we call at FIT CHICKS, a skimpy stretcher?\u00a0 Do you work out but breeze through your pre and post workout stretches?\u00a0 This chick tip is all about sweetness of stretching.
