Hiking does a body good!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hey Chicks,<\/p>\n<p>We have just kicked off our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\">Sept bootcamp sessions <\/a>and I feel like I blinked and the summer has come and gone (even though it is still about 30 degrees in Toronto!).<\/p>\n<p>It has been an action packed with weddings (congrats Nadine &amp; Brooks), concerts (I just saw Florence &amp; the Machine, Blue Rodeo, Kelly Clarkson &amp; Roxette &#8211; quite the mix I know!), filming <a title=\"WELLNESS WEDNESDAY: Announcing \u201cShape Up with FIT CHICKS\u201d TV Show Air Dates!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2012\/08\/wellness-wednesday-announcing-shape-up-with-fit-chicks-tv-show-air-dates\/\">our upcoming TV series &#8220;Shape Up with FIT CHICKS&#8221;<\/a> (which begins airing next Tuesday on Sept 11!), <strong>planning our upcoming fitness retreat at Horseshoe Valley (more details coming very soon!)<\/strong> and of course..travelling!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4190\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0366.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4190\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4190\" title=\"IMG_0366\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0366-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"fit chicks jasper alberta\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0366-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0366-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4190\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">So many fabulous routes to choose from in Jasper Alberta!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>I finished off this amazing summer by do one of my favorite things in one of my favorite places:\u00a0 hiking in the Canadian Rockies!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4186\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0421.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4186\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4186 \" title=\"IMG_0421\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0421-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Maligne Canyon fit chicks\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0421-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0421-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_0421.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4186\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Or instead of mountain, you can always take on a canyon!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now if you can&#8217;t access the mountains of the Canadian Rockies, <strong>you can still take your hikes to a whole different workout lev<\/strong>el!\u00a0 Try these <strong>chick tips to shake them up chick style and get an even better workout in!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4192\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_03911.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4192\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4192\" title=\"IMG_0391\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_03911-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"fit chicks jasper\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_03911-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_03911-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hiking the Sulpher Skyline in Jasper National Park<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Interval hiking:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\">We always do\u00a0 high intensity intervals in our bootcamps<\/a> so why not take it on the trails?!\u00a0 Try walking for 2 min then power hiking or trail running for 30- 1 min,\u00a0 Complete 7 times for a high intensity interval cardio workout on the trail!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Trail toning:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The great outdoors is Canada\u2019s gym!\u00a0 <strong>There are so many elements you can incorporate<\/strong> in like step ups on rocks, lunges up\u00a0 or down hill, or using a tree for a wall sit.\u00a0<a title=\"Healthy Hiking Trails \u2013 Chick Style!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2010\/11\/healthy-hiking-trails-chick-style\/\"> Write down 3 exercises before you hit your next trail<\/a> and add them to your hike to get your strength training in too.<\/p>\n<h3>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Time it!<\/h3>\n<p><strong>If you have a trail or hike you do regularly, time how long it takes you to reach the end.<\/strong> Next time try to beat your time.\u00a0 It will pump you up to move faster and gives you a measurable to see your improvement.<\/p>\n<h3>4.
