{"id":3552,"date":"2012-01-13T10:27:37","date_gmt":"2012-01-13T18:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/?p=3552"},"modified":"2021-10-04T16:32:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T16:32:38","slug":"fitness-friday-amazing-yoga-stretches-for-every-chick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2012\/01\/fitness-friday-amazing-yoga-stretches-for-every-chick\/","title":{"rendered":"FITNESS FRIDAY &#8211; Amazing yoga stretches for every chick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hey Chicks!<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday I had to pleasure of meeting up with the Brampton <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runningroom.com\/hm\/\">Running Room<\/a> chicks that are training for a half marathon right now and show them some of my favorite stretches for recovering those sore muscles!<\/p>\n<p><strong>It got me thinking about all the pluses to a great stretch<\/strong> as well as the things you want to pay attention to when trying to loosen up.<\/p>\n<p>So here are my top 5 moves and why I suggest you do them!<\/p>\n<h3>Head Chick Amanda\u2019s Top 5 Yoga Stretches:<\/h3>\n<h3>1.\u00a0\u00a0 Seated Forward Bend<\/h3>\n<p>Sit on your booty with legs out in front of your feet together and legs together and reach your hands to your feet and relax into it<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3553\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Forward-Bend.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3553\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3553\" title=\"Forward Bend\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Forward-Bend-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Yoga Stretch Seated Forward bend\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Forward-Bend-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Forward-Bend-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3553\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Seated Forward Bend<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I love this move because you can really feel your hamstrings letting go and of course if you move from your hips and avoid collapsing forward you can get an awesome stretch in your lower back. Just be sure to reach your hear towards your feet to keep this length.<\/p>\n<h3>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Inner Thigh Stretch<\/h3>\n<p>Start in runners lunge position, both hands inside the front foot and then drop crown of your head towards the ground to really get into your inner thighs.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3554\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Inner-Thigh-Stretch.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3554\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3554\" title=\"Inner Thigh Stretch\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Inner-Thigh-Stretch-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Yoga Stretch - Inner thigh Stretch\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Inner-Thigh-Stretch-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Inner-Thigh-Stretch-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3554\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inner Thigh Stretch<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This move rocks my world to really get into hip flexors as well. Just be sure to stay with it as long as you can and do both sides or else you will be lop-sided and nobody wants that lol.<\/p>\n<h3>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cCrouching Tiger\u201d Hamstring Stretch<\/h3>\n<p>OK so that is not the real name but this move makes me feel like I am a ninja for some reason lol. From the inner thigh stretch above simply sit back on to your foot that is behind you \u2013 so it now becomes your seat and then fold over your front leg reaching for your toe and relaxing your shoulders.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3556\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Crouching-Tiger-Pose.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3556\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3556\" title=\"Crouching Tiger Pose\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Crouching-Tiger-Pose-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Yoga Pose and stretch - Crouching Tiger\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Crouching-Tiger-Pose-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Crouching-Tiger-Pose-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3556\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crouching Tiger like a ninja!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This move is awesome to relax my hamstrings but also a little tip if you really try to point your toes towards your face you will feel a nice pull in the calve muscle as well which is a super bonus according to <a href=\"https:\/\/relaxthemuscle.com\">Relaxthemuscle<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h3>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 IT Band Stretch<\/h3>\n<p>Sitting on your booty grab over the front of your right foot with your left hand, kick your leg out straight then pull it across your body towards the left shoulder.\u00a0 Hold for about 30 seconds and then repeat on the other side.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3555\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IT-Band-Stretching-with-Lynx-lol.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3555\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3555\" title=\"IT Band Stretching with Lynx lol\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IT-Band-Stretching-with-Lynx-lol-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Yoga Stretch IT Band\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IT-Band-Stretching-with-Lynx-lol-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IT-Band-Stretching-with-Lynx-lol-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3555\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IT Band Stetch with my kitty Lynx<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Love, love, love this move because it stretches me from ankle to lower back and really makes me aware of which part is acting up or extra sore and needs some love.<\/p>\n<h3>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pigeon Pose<\/h3>\n<p>Bring your right knee towards your right wrist \u2013 usually easier to start in downward dog position to get there \u2013 and then centre hips and relax. You do not have to bring your head towards the ground in this pose just find the spot where you are feeling the outer hip and stay there.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3558\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Pigeon-pose.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3558\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3558\" title=\"Pigeon pose\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Pigeon-pose-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Yoga Stretch - Pigeon Pose\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Pigeon-pose-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Pigeon-pose-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3558\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pigeon Pose &#8211; love this!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Again on my top of the list because it really helps me relax, recover from a tough <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\">Bootcamp class<\/a> or just centre myself a bit and calm down.<\/p>\n<h3>Some quick key things to remember while you are stretching:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Relax<\/strong> \u2013 I know it sounds silly but really try to relax and I mean everything. Like no scrunchy faces, no tension in your neck you need to relax fully to really let go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stick with it <\/strong>\u2013 make sure you stretch before each workout \u2013 using dynamic stretches and after each workout using static ones like some of my faves above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Relax your shoulders<\/strong> \u2013 they serve you no purpose up by your ears!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Learn to love it<\/strong> \u2013 this is key because even though some of us may feel like the work we do in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\">Bootcamp<\/a> or other activities is what counts, stretching is key to helping muscles relax, repair and lengthen. I mean who wants to have toned arms but that are an inch shorter than when you started training lol.<\/p>\n<p>So chicks, add these to your workouts and you will for sure feel a little less sore post workout and maybe even a little taller!<\/p>\n<p>Amanda xo<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Hey Chicks!
