{"id":3205,"date":"2011-10-12T15:08:37","date_gmt":"2011-10-12T23:08:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/?p=3205"},"modified":"2011-10-12T15:08:37","modified_gmt":"2011-10-12T23:08:37","slug":"wellness-wednesday-japanese-eating-principles-meets-thanksgiving-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.fitchicks.ca\/blog\/2011\/10\/wellness-wednesday-japanese-eating-principles-meets-thanksgiving-dinner\/","title":{"rendered":"Wellness Wednesday &#8211;  Japanese Eating Principles meets Thanksgiving Dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hey Chicks,<\/p>\n<p>Happy Wednesday!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is now 2 days post Thanksgiving and I feel like I am finally emerging from my turkey coma!\u00a0 As my parents are divorced, I get a double dosage of dinner so I usually tend to\u00a0throw all my healthy eating principles out of the window,\u00a0eat everything in sight\u00a0for\u00a02 nights in a row (and get sent home with tons of leftovers!) then sit around and feeling guilty all week for eating too much.\u00a0 This year, I decided in advance I wasn&#8217;t going to have the &#8220;all or nothing&#8221; mentality.\u00a0 Not only did I throw in a 18km hike through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadascapital.gc.ca\/places-to-visit\/gatineau-park\">Gatineau Park <\/a>(I needed a buffer in case I wanted extra cake:) but I\u00a0tried a new approach to eating my Thanksgiving dinner by following a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hakubaku.com\/content\/view\/15\/30\/\">Japanese eating principle<\/a> my sister told me about called hara hachi bu. Here is the definition:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>hara hachi bu \u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; \u201ceat until 80 percent full only\u201d. Stopping at 80 percent capacity gives the stomach&#8217;s stretch receptors time to catch up since the stomach takes about 20 minutes to tell the body how full it really is.<\/p>\n<p>Well, I think I probably ate until approximately\u00a095% full on the second night but being aware of this principle while eating made me really focus on what my body\u00a0was feeling during the meal.\u00a0 Alot of times I find that I dont even realize how much I have eaten and the next thing I know I feel like I am stuffed to the gills (this chick can eat serious quantities of everything including brussel sprouts&#8230;
